  • Program Mission: Utilizing compassionate, career-focused mentoring relationships to guide high risk youth so they may establish goals which lead to high school graduation, higher education and/or successful employment.
  • Referral Process: 8th and 9th grade Bridge students referred to TTS staff for interview and matched with mentor. Job Readiness/Summer Employment component: Bridge teens who successfully complete 8-week Job Readiness Training course and meet age requirements are eligible for selection for employment in Baptist or St. Vincent’s Hospital TTS Summer Employment Program

This unique alliance provides job readiness classes with mentoring followed by full time summer employment for teens living in some of Jacksonville's highest rates of crime, poverty and unemployment. Selected Bridge youth chose a career interest then receive ten weeks of targeted mentoring and career skill training from a professional in that particular field.

Since 1998, Bridge youth have had the opportunity to explore many exciting careers, ones that previously seemed unattainable, such as law, medicine, public relations and corporate communications.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
Since its inception, over 229 Bridge youth have received job readiness training including:

  •  How to write a resume
  •  The interview process
  •  Social skills at work
  •  Dressing appropriately for the job
  •  Answering the telephone
  •  Decision making
  •  Budgeting Your Pay

176 youth have received year round mentors.  Tipping the Scale provides opportunities in employment, mentoring, public speaking and spiritual support for over 50 Bridge youth each year.
