Special Success Story:
Large
numbers of Northshore students responded to the request for entries to
the Jacksonville Children's Commission Black History Artist Contest.
After looking over all the entries, the staff had to pick just three
artists to submit.
One
of the Northshore artists was third grader JaVaughn. Before the
contest, JaVaughn had gotten in trouble and was close to being
expelled. To everyone's delight, JaVaughn won the contest. He got
recognition in the newspaper and won a savings bond. In addition, his
art work was hung in the atrium of City Hall.
As
a result of this recognition and the support of The Bridge staff,
JaVaughn hs improved in his grades and behavior and is maintaining a B
average this year in school.
