- Referral Process: Children reside in HUD apartment community where program is located, word of mouth and flyers

Goal: Develop the strengths and assets of at-risk youth living in
public housing project; avoid, teen pregnancies and truancies; to
improve achievement scores in reading and math; increase the number of
students promoted to the next grade; provide enrichment activities to
help children avoid negative behaviors.

The Bridge of Southwind Villas provides positive youth development and
homework activities for over 100 youth living in public housing at
Southwind Villas in the Southside.
Children
in the Southwind Villas After School program have experienced a visible
transformation. They exhibit increased respect for one another and
there has been a steady and consistent improvement in their report
cards.
The
hot dinner meal sponsored in partnership with the Kid's Cafe has proved
to be an indispensable component to the program and the Southwind
Villas community.

2004-2005 Highlights:
- 80 bags of groceries donated by Kid's Cafe delivered to program families
- 12 youth attended The Bridge Scholarship Night program
- 15 youth earned seats in Jaguar's Honor Rows sponsored by the Jaguars Foundation
- 116 children attended The Bridge Summer Camp
