Dear Friends:
We serve on the board at The Bridge because seeing a child break the chain of poverty and hopelessness they were born into gives us hope for the future. We care about the future of the city that is home to our children and our families.
Bridge programs are about prevention and hope: preventing academic failure; school drop outs; teen pregnancy; providing job skills training and summer jobs, mentors; college scholarships; helping families with support in their efforts to raise children in a harsh environment of poverty by providing hope that dreams for a better future can come true.
This year The Bridge moved towards a long-held dream to expand capacity by purchasing and starting to transform a defunct 1911 school into a state-of-the-art epicenter. The vision is to give teens from the impoverished communities surrounding The Bridge a place to safely continue their quest to be responsible, educated, and productive members of society. It is called The Weaver Zone to honor long time Bridge supporters Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver and their family.
The Weaver Zone is an opportunity to touch even more lives by expanding teen programs, allowing more boys and girls to participate in our award-winning, nationally-recognized programs addressing violence, teen pregnancy, health and academics.
We are asking you to join us in raising awareness and support to grow the successful teen programs at The Bridge, expanding opportunities for hundreds of youth. We can all encourage others to join in the dream for a brighter future for these children, their families and, ultimately, for the city of Jacksonville.
Sincerely,
Poppy Clements Terry Walton
