• Program Goal: Develop the strengths and assets of youth to
full potential; avoid negative behaviors, teen pregnancies and truancies
• Number Served: 568 after school and summer
BUS
is located in the inner city community of Springfield where
Jacksonville’s highest rates of poverty, teen pregnancy and
crime occur. Open year round, BUS provides free educational,
nutritional, health, vocational and social services to over 500
children and families each year.
After school, weekend and summer camp services include:
- Homework help
- Mentoring
- Youth employment training and placement
- Co-ed and gender specific sports
- Comprehensive sexuality education
Bus provides a variety of positive youth development activities such as:
- The Creative Arts Expression Program ( CARE) where teens can learn to express themselves through their choice of creative arts
- Karate
- Computer lab
- Chorus
- Dance
- Tennis
- Home Economics

Outcomes:
• 100% successfully refrained
from pregnancy (who attended 60+ days)
• 100% increased their developmental assets
• 100% refrained from truancy and/or delinquency
• 100% increased their commitment and achievement in school

BUS
Highlights:

Over 212 youth participated in a six-week enrichment summer camp
-
All campers participated in a new Nutrition and Fitness Program through
our partnership with the Jaguars Foundation and their Honor Rows Program
-
12 youth successfully completed the Baptist summer mentoring and
employment program.

44 students were employed full-time through our partnership with
Baptist and the Tipping the Scale program
-
Over 82 youth successfully achieved personal and academic goals to earn
their Jaguars Honor Rows game ticket.

25 youth attended the Kids Festival at University of North Florida
