Bridge Works Success Story

When Dominique first started attending Bridge programs, she was in 7th grade at Arlington Middle School and was very shy. However, she would tell the other students to "shut up and pay attention" because she was trying to learn something to get a job.

In 2003, Dominique completed all of her Bridge Works requirements and was selected for a summer internship position and interned at The Bridge Summer Camp. She seemed on the road to success.

Then. in 2004, Dominique experienced the tragic loss of her stepfather, the backbone of her family. He had guided her and mentored her as his own child. This sad loss sent Dominique into a tailspin. She lost sight of her education and was retained in the 9th grade. After that she also learned that her mother was ill and shared with The Bridge staff her desire to become a nurse in order to help others.

In 2005, she completed all of her Bridge Works requirements and was selected to participate in the summer internship and interned at a Home Health agency where she shadowed and observed the nursing staff. This inspired Dominique to enroll in the Job Corps program so she could pursue her education by obtaining her GED along with a nursing certificate.

Dominique moved to Gainesville, Florida and has been attending the Job Corps and loving it.
